5 Health Checks That You Should Have Regularly

Regular health checks are essential, as they can help to identify any health problems early so that treatments or solutions are more effective. The health checks that are recommended for people differ depending on your age, health, lifestyle, and other factors. Even if you feel healthy, it is a good idea to keep on top of these appointments, so that no health condition sneaks up on you without warning.

Below are some of the health checks that you should have regularly:

Eye test

Even if you have perfect vision, it is important to have regular eye tests. Your optician will recommend how often you should go for one, but it is usually once every two years. Not only do they check whether your vision is clear, but they can also detect any eye related conditions and other conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

If you need glasses, ensure that you take your time picking a frame that you like, and enquire about different coatings that can be applied to the lenses.

Hearing test

If you notice any problems with your hearing, such as hearing loss or tinnitus, you should go for a hearing test. The test will measure the sensitivity of your hearing by playing a series of sounds that you have to respond to in some way. They will also look in your ears to ensure there is no wax blockage. If it turns out that you need hearing aids, try not to worry too much, as you will still be able to do things that you enjoy, such as Yoga. Instead, find out about different hearing accessories that will make them easier and less frustrating to wear.

Dental checkup

Everyone should aim to go to the dentist at least once every six months. Regular dentist appointments will ensure that your teeth, mouth, and gums are healthy, and they will be able to identify any potential dental problems in the future. Even if going to the dentist seems costly, regular checkups will work out cheaper than only going when you have a problem that needs to be fixed. It will also mean that you have fewer problems with your teeth, as your dentist will remove any build-up of plaque, fix cavities before they become too deep, and find other issues before they start bothering you.

Blood pressure

When you visit the doctor, they will often take your blood pressure. This is to keep an eye on it and to check that it is normal. It is something that should be checked around every two years if it is normal, you are under 40, and high blood pressure isn’t in your family history.

Cervical Screening Test

Women usually get their first Cervical Screening Test (CST) when they are 25, and if everything comes back normal, you will wait five years for another test. The CST detects abnormal cells and HPV. If there are no abnormal cells, but HPV is detected, you will need to go back in a year to get retested to ensure the HPV has gone. If abnormal cells are identified, they will be able to be taken care of before it develops into something more serious.
