Peace Of My Heart: Concert With Krishna Das

Peace Of My Heart: Concert With Krishna Das

By Deidre Norman

“This is the best moment of my day because once we start singing, I am allowed to not think about my miserable life,” says Krishna Das as his he begins his concert. His face was pure full of pure joy and the audience felt all of that joy as well. And then he went straight into the opening chant of Jaya Bhagavan and talked to us about how love will conquer all of our darkness. He took us on a journey into our hearts right from the start!

I have seen Krishna Das live many times, and it truly amazes me that each time I see him, I feel like it was his best concert. Every time I leave his concerts, I am bursting with love. This concert was no different.

Krishna Das’s voice in and of itself, is so magical. Just hearing him sing brings me to an immediate state of stillness. This happens when I am seeing him live, or just listening to his music. One of my favorite memories of listening to Krishna Das, was when I was in Rishikesh, India last year. I was walking down the street, and I could hear someone playing Krishna Das, and as I looked up, a group of Indian boys were walking toward me carrying a speaker playing Krishna Das. They were all singing and dancing down the street to Krishna Das. So of course, I joined in. It was a moment of pure joy and pure bliss. Even just playing his music invoked such devotion and such happiness.

When on stage Krishna Das’s devotion pours out of him and fills the space with magic. For this concert, we were in LA at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, for his Peace Of My Heart tour, and even though it was a huge space, it felt like we were all in Krishna Das’s living room - just hanging out. The sense of community he has created was so inspiring to me. And even if you saw someone you did not know, you were greeted as if you were an old friend.

Each song took us through waves of emotions…we moved from pure devotion, to deep love, to joy, to sadness, to ecstatic bliss (which got many of us up dancing), and each song ended with us all being in a this peaceful, calm, still state. The journey he took us on was filled with so much love and it felt as if my heart was bursting open more and more through each song.

The musicians alongside Krishna Das were incredible as well. I have heard many of them with Krishna Das in the past, and I have also seen them alongside other musicians a Shakti Fest and Bhakti Fest, and so it really felt as if I was home, I was in the right place. They all played effortlessly together and there was so much joy and happiness exuding from all of them.

The concert ended with a standing ovation and you could feel bliss and love emanating from everyone. The bliss stayed with me for several days.
