My Top 3 Favorite Things At City Fit Fest!

My Top 3 Favorite Things At City Fit Fest!

By Amy Powell

CITY FIT FEST this past Saturday was so much fun. The first fitness & wellness festival of its kind to happen in SF. There were so many things I loved about the festival! I wanted to share with you my three favorite things:

  • The Janet Stone Beyonce Inspired Yoga Class - I was most excited for Janet Stone’s Beyonce Inspired Yoga Class and let me tell you , it did not disappoint. The sun was shining, the wind was blowing and it was the perfect temperature for outdoor yoga. Janet’s music was upbeat remixes of your favorite artists including Queen Bey. We started with a flow unlike anything I’ve tried before. Janet told us to move our bodies to the music however we feel, but we had to make sure we were snapping our fingers. She recommended we let our hair down (because Beyonce doesn’t wear ponytails). So there we were shaking our booties, snapping our fingers and whipping our hair around. I’d like to think we all looked like windblown models. During the class Janet kept repeating how amazing and strong we are and to express yourself any way we wanted. I felt empowered to move by body however I wanted instead of having to stay in a pose or stay on my mat. We were able to bounce around, dance and feel silly. Janet has a great sense of humor and seems like the kind of friend that will always keep you entertained. When she ended the class singing Justin Bieber and Sinead O’Connor's "Nothing Compares to You," I knew I was in the right place!
  • Amazing Food and Samples - My husband came with me to City Fit Fest and we both started out with a 20 minute circuit at Kokoda training. It was a tough way to start but great for getting the blood pumping. As soon as we were finished we both needed some energy, so the sample booths is where we went! We started at the Rx Bar booth. Their delicious bars are clean, have simple ingredients and taste AMAZING. It was the perfect snack in between classes to keep our energy up. Plus they gave us a handful of free bars at the end because they noticed how much we liked the bars. After that we split ways, me to Janet Stone yoga and him to Barry’s Bootcamp. We met up after both sweaty and thirsty. We headed over to Urban Remedy where we spent a good 20 minutes trying all of the organic juices and talking with the very knowledgable reps. Turns out they have several locations and use as much local produce as possible. I try to do a juice cleanse at least once a year and Urban Remedy seems like the perfect fit. They even deliver which is convenient, as I don’t have a car in the city. Then we hit the food trucks. The line for Bowl’d Acai was too long so we went over to Greenbox where we had the kale-fornia chopped salad. It had organic grilled smoked chicken, almonds, organic asparagus coins, pecorino cheese, roasted heirloom grape tomato, quinoa, organic kale, a lemon wedge and it was topped with avocado herb dressing. My husband is a meat and potatoes kind of guy but he scarfed down this salad and absolutely loved it.
  • Class Variety - We are pretty new to the city and still trying to find our workout routine. It was great to be able to try what SF has to offer in one day. We were both able to take several classes. All of the trainers and instructors were super friendly and excited to tell us about their companies and programs. At the end of the day we left feeling happy and healthy. We did wake up on Sunday hardly able to walk. I guess taking a handful of different work out classes in one day isn’t sustainable but it was definitely worth it!

We are already looking forward to the next CITY FIT FEST!
